Campsite

What’s great about this campsite is that it is only 40 minutes on the local train (S-Bahn) into the centre of Munich. Located on the Pilsensee – one of the many lakes to the south of Munich – the setting is idyllic. Guests can swim in the lake or hire boats directly from the campsite itself. There is also a small shop, restaurant and beer garden on site.

Schloss Seefeld castle – a local tourist attraction – is just around the corner from the campsite. 15 minutes away in Seefeld, there is a bakery, larger supermarket and a small selection of shops, which are all handy for rail campers. Take the train one stop further south to Herrsching and you’ll find yourself on the beautiful Ammersee. There’s a popular walk from there up to Kloster Andechs and its wonderful Bavarian beer garden.

Accommodation Options

There are seven mobile homes for rent on site. Each one sleep four, split between one double room and a smaller room with two single beds. There are also a number of small wooden huts that sleep between three and four in a very compact arrangement. The huts don’t have bathrooms or cooking facilities, which makes them only practical for a couple of nights if you are rail camping.

Transport Links

The nearest station to the campsite is Seefeld-Hechendorf, which is on the S8 line of Munich’s suburban S-Bahn railway network. From here the trains run south one more station to Herrsching or north into Munich, connecting to the main railway station and centre (Marienplatz).

Directions to Campsite

The walk from the railway station to the campsite takes about twenty minutes and is fairly straightforward. Leave the station and turn left onto Bahnhofstrasse, following the road until the very end, at what point you turn left going under a railway bridge. You will now be on a larger road that takes you out into the open landscape heading towards Seefeld. Upon reaching a crossroads, turn right and continue along the footpath / cycle path on the side of the road, which will eventually take you to the campsite entrance.
