Campsite

Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe, is a really lovely holiday destination. The shallow warm waters are ideal for swimming, while the surrounding hills, renowned for their vineyards, are great for walking. Badacsony on the northern shore of the lake is a small town with a well-established tourist economy. There are wine bars, plenty of restaurants and a small supermarket in the centre.

Badacsony Camping on the western side of the town is situated right on the lake, which means guests can go straight into the water for a swim. It’s a small campsite with a basic shop, a small restaurant and bike hire facilities.

Accommodation Options

The campsite has space for tents and caravans. If you’re a rail camper, though, it will be the ten mobile homes that will be of most interest. These come in two different sizes and can sleep from 2 up to 6 people. All bookings can be made directly through the campsite website.

Transport Links

A railway line runs all the way around the northern shore of the lake and includes a stop at the scenic Badacsony railway station. Trains stopping at Badacsony run through to Budapest in the east and Tapolca in the west. Budapest is the most straightforward entry point for Lake Balaton and for international trains too. From the harbour in Badacsony, there is also a regular ferry service across the lake to Fonyód, which also has its own mainline train station with services to Budapest and beyond.

Directions to Campsite

At the station, walk along the single platform to the western end and continue straight across a pedestrian level crossing, keeping the railway line to your left. A path then continues for a short distance through the trees, passing the ABC supermarket on your right, until you reach a road. At this point (with the railway on your left) carry straight across walking along a narrow tarmacked road until you reach a T-junction and a level crossing. Directly opposite on the other side of the railway is the entrance to the campsite and the main reception building.
