Campsite

Camping Betuwestrand is in the village of Beesd south of Utrecht. Beesd has a handful of restaurants and a few shops. The main attractions, therefore, are rather to be found on the campsite, which surrounds a large lake. This is great for swimming, water skiing and even wake boarding. There are also three different water slides that drop you straight into the lake. In terms of facilities, the campsite has a large restaurant, snack bar and supermarket. It’s a large site, popular with families who come to spend time at the lake and the beach. Bookings can be made on the campsite’s website.

Accommodation Options

There are several self-catering accommodation options on site. The smallest and cheapest – cosy wooden huts – are probably not ideal for those arriving by train, as guests need to bring their own sleeping bags and cooking equipment. An easier option would be the onsite mobile homes (both standard and luxury) that come fully equipped. The campsite’s ready pitched tents, which can sleep up to six people, are another great option for Rail Campers.

Transport Links

Beesd railway station is a stop on the line that runs between Geldermalsen and Dordrecht. The much larger towns of Leerdam to the east and Geldermalsen are only a few minutes away by train and offer a larger range of facilities (restaurants and supermarkets) than can be found in Beesd itself. From Geldermalsen, there are train connections to the major cities of Leiden and the Hague, while Dordrecht offers easy links to Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Directions to Campsite

On leaving the simple station complex head right along the path keeping the railway to your right. After passing under a major road bridge and reaching a petrol station, you need to carry straight across down a much narrower road. After a short distance, you’ll see the entrance to the campsite on the left.
